Introducing My Research Project
Welcome to my blog! Here is a link to my previous post.
In this post, I am going to express in brief about how my research project came into existence and what my research project all about. This project is funded by the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. This project is initiated by Enterprise Dynatest International A/s, Soborg Denmark under the Project SMARTI organized by Nottingham Transport Engineering Centre at the University of Nottingham.
Dynatest is a foremost pavement consulting and engineering company. They provide pavement maintenance services and sell equipment for structural and functional evaluation (such as Deflectometers, profilers and friction testers) of Pavement network at both project and network level across the globe. Dynatest has been a global front-runner in their proficiency since 1976. With better technologies, better innovation is required as existing technologies keep getting out of date. The Dynatest Research and Development centre, where this research project is based currently have finished the development of an RPT platform integrating Rolling wheel deflectometer this year, also known as Dynatest Raptor. It aims to help pavement engineers manage and monitor their pavement network in a more productive and efficient matter by providing bearing capacity measurements, better than ever.
With this new technology, there is a need to understand and develop the way it will assess Rigid Pavements. The research and development engineers at Dynatest are confident of this new equipment's capabilities as they have been developing this product for the last 7 years. In fact, Research engineers at Dynatest have proposed this idea in form of a research project to the SMARTI consortium and thus this project was initiated in October 2017. This application of the Dynatest Raptor on rigid pavements need to be understood and studied. This project includes the development of the application of this new Rolling wheel deflectometer technology for rigid pavement. This is important because the amount of rigid pavement network in ever increasing and this research is focused on this type of network can reduce maintenance costs significantly. This could lead to time fold improvement in the maintenance costs and duration at Airports and Rigid highway pavements.
For the past one year, the project has been underway and my aims are to achieve the research objectives. My main Industrial advisor is Dr Mathias B. Anderson at Dynatest International A/s. He is one of the main research engineers for the Development of Dynatest Rolling wheel deflectometer. My one of the academic supervisors is Dr Nick Thom. He is a professor at the University of Nottingham. My another supervisor is Dr Davide Lo Presti. He is a Principle research fellow at the University of Nottingham. I am delighted to be working on this project and have received continuous guidance from my advisors.
Well it was a brief back ground about my research project. Please keep following my blog for more updates!
